Dually Diagnosed PHP and IOP

Getting you back into the swing of things.
Carroll Hospital Center’s Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for adults and adolescents are designed to meet the specific needs of patients with psychiatric or behavioral conditions who may also require treatment for substance abuse. Located on Four North, a unit designated for outpatient programming, the PHPs provide daily, structured, supportive treatment and can function as an alternative to more restrictive treatment options.

Adult patients spend part of their day in treatment that focuses on their psychiatric or behavioral health condition plus participate in a separate daily treatment component that concentrates on substance abuse issues.

Adolescent patients attend a structured school program coordinated through the Carroll County Public School System. Mental health treatment designed especially for adolescents with substance abuse problems also is an integral component of the program.

A nutritious lunch and transportation assistance are provided.

For adult and adolescent patients whose current level of functioning allows for more independence, the hospital offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). These daily, three-hour programs contain the same therapeutic services as the PHPs, but give the patient the ability to still maintain a daily routine outside of treatment. Adults can go to work and adolescents can attend their own schools while receiving intensive treatment for psychiatric or behavioral conditions as well as substance abuse therapy. The IOP can be utilized as a step-down from the PHP.

Treatment includes:

  • Multidisciplinary team made up of licensed clinical social workers, certified addiction counselors, nurses, occupational therapists, an adult psychiatrist, and adolescent psychiatrist and a teacher (for the adolescents)
  • Psychiatric assessment, evaluation and consultation
  • Group and family therapies
  • Medication monitoring and teaching
  • Substance abuse treatment and education
  • Illness teaching for better understanding of condition
  • Goal setting and skills building
  • Occupational therapy
  • Discharge planning coordinated with community services, resources and providers
